I'm not going to take credit for this quote, but I will show it. I understand that not everything works for everyone, but again, if this helps you, then I've done my job.
So some years ago I managed to take a set of IT classes from My Computer Career. It was a time in my life that I had the desire to make some extra cash and felt that IT was the way to go. I had seen a future for me in this role, but later I learned that IT was not the direction I wanted to go. However, taking the classes was nothing to have stepped away from. I've learned valuable information that I would have done it again if I had to re-live that portion of my life over.
Now I will get to my point. One of my instructors said these words... "You have to live it." You can probably guess this means what it is that you do at your jobs, you may also do at home. Although he taught IT classes as his occupation, he also owned a server at his house which he monitored and practiced on.
The same goes for me. Currently I design on the computer in my day job, but once the business times are over, I step outside of the office and do freelance graphic design, and web development. If I'm not doing freelance work, I am practicing some type of design or web project. Why? Because I enjoy it and also to keep my practice up. This is not to say that I don't take a breather at my home and enjoy a movie or some other entertainment.
Again, this depends on you. It depends on the individual. It may be a healthy step for some if you just take the time or make the time to keep at practice.
